Q: What type of
paint do you use? Is it toxic? Does it have an odor? How long does it
take to dry?
A: I use artist's acrylics which are water based, nontoxic, dry
immediately, and have virtually no odor. By the time I clean up my
equipment, the paint is completely dry.
Q: Will the paint come off if I need
to wash the wall? Do you put a coating over the painting when finished?
A: The acrylic paint is water resistant, and permanent when dry,
however you should wait at least a week before washing it. Then it can
be gently washed with a mild soap and water solution. I can put an
indoor polyacrylic coating over the painting, for a slightly glossy
look (much like oil paintings), if you so choose. There will be an
additional charge for this, but your mural will be more durable. If the
mural is done on an outside wall, cleaning preparation is more
extensive and priming will be done before the actual design is painted,
along with a special UV protective coating after the mural is completed
to your satisfaction.
Q: If we need to paint over the
painting in the future, how is this done?
A: The painted surface should be lightly block sanded because there may
be slight variations in the thickness of paint. The colorful surface
needs to be primed with a good quality primer. Then painting your walls
should proceed as normal. Ask me about another option of doing the work
on canvas or washable polyblend cloth so that you might take the mural
with you if you move.
PREP WORK
Q: What preparations must be done to
the walls before I come and paint?
A: In most rooms I do not paint every square inch of wall, unless
contracted to do so. The basic wall paint should be in good condition
so as not to detract from the decorated surface. This would include
filling holes in the wall with spackle and then sanding smooth. The
basic wall color shows through the decorative painting.
Q: What type of wall paint should be
used?
A: Select an eggshell, satin, or low luster water based paint. The wall
paint needs to be a water based paint (not oil) so my decorative
acrylics are compatible. If repainting the room, although my paints are
compatible with a water based flat or high gloss, I would suggest
selecting something in between.
Q: Do you do the prep work? Do you
roller paint?
A: I typically do not do prep work or roller paint, unless contracted
to do so. It would probably be more cost-effective to have someone else
paint the walls, as I would be charging my mural prices to prep and
base paint the walls.
ESTIMATES
Q: How do I get an estimate? What do
you charge?
A: I am very reasonably priced. but every job is different, and
requires more or less time, and, more or less travel. I base the price
on the scope of work. Larger, more intricate work, higher price.
Smaller, less intricate, smaller price. The more accurately I know what
I am painting for you, the more accurate price I can give. Pricing
would be within a range if it were given over the telephone (ex.
$1000-$1200) perhaps due to your location in the country. Pricing after
an actual appointment-made consultation with signed contract, would be
an exact cost.
Q: How long does your average job
take?
A: Most jobs range from one to five days. I block out my schedule for
you and you alone during this time I do not wedge any other job, no
matter how small, in YOUR time slot.
Q: Do you have a minimum charge?
A: Yes. My minimum charge is $150 and will be done at the earliest
possible date after the wall is prepped.
AVAILABILITY
Q: How far in advance do I need to
book you?
A: My schedule is subject to change daily. Sometimes I am available
immediately. Sometimes I am booked for several months straight.
Sometimes I am booked solid, and someone postpones, creating an opening
in my schedule.

MY SPECIALTY
Q: What style or type of painting do
you do?
A: My specialty is Impressionistic, whether Old World or Contemporary,
Children's rooms, and décor for Commercial establishments. I can
also match décor you already have. Please check our website at
www.muralfantasies.com
for links in these areas.
Q: Do you do faux finishes?
A Yes. My particular favorites are ragging off and frottage.
Q: Do you paint on doors or closets?
Do you paint furniture?
A: I can paint on doors or closets or furniture if they have a water
based, painted, surface. I do not strip furniture or prepare unfinished
wood. I will paint on a primed surface, or add any decorative painting
to properly prepared pieces. (If unsure if my paint is compatible with
the surface in question, I will need to pass on the job or, at
additional cost, buy special supplies for your project.)
APPOINTMENT INFORMATION and PAINTING LOCATIONS
Q: What happens in the consultation?
A: If you have selected a basic theme (like jungle, ocean, sports,
floral, etc.), or you have picked out accessories (like bedding,
curtains, and furniture), I will be able to come more prepared for our
consultation with pictures for you to look at. I have a very creative
ability to help you develop the look that you need and desire.
Sometimes cards, stickers, magazines or fabrics help inspire a theme.
If something strikes your eye, save it. It will help me get a sense of
what painting style you like best. If specific ideas are given for your
project during this consultation, a fee of $100 will be charged at the
time of the consultation and will be refunded at the end of the
project.
Q: How do I make an appointment to
discuss my ideas with you?
A: Call me in South Florida @
Office:
(561)-737-7663
Cell: (954) 253-7172.
Q: How far will you travel to paint,
or meet for an appointment?
A: I am based in Boynton Beach, Florida. I will travel approximately 30
miles in any direction for a consultation. If you live farther, we can
discuss your ideas, via email, or over the telephone.
Q: Will you travel to other states?
A: The mural work would have to include the transportation costs and
lodging if I did so. No mural out of state will be done for less than
$1000 plus transportation, lodging, and travel time.
Q: How is payment arranged?
A: Payment is done in three payments. Half of the amount is due up
front along with a signed contract delineating the work. One quarter is
due during the middle of the project, and the last quarter is due,
minus the $100 deposit, at the end of the project.
